The goldsmiths of the region of Kédougou are sounding the alarm about the lack of goldsmithing halls and gold buying counters. Mamadou Sabi kora, administrative secretary of the orpailleurs, deplores the situation which considerably hinders their activities. “We are orpailleurs, we demand to benefit from at least 5% of the corridors available in the region”, he argued. According to him, of the 16 corridors officially recensed, only three are operational to date. The actors in the sector also demand to be included in the management of the goldfishing areas, particularly in the case of toll zones. Finally, they ask the State for support for a better structuring of the sector and a more equitable exploitation of the gold resources.
