Osun 2026: Gov Adeleke’s defection good riddance – APC

The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has described the Accord Party’s acceptance of Governor Ademola Adeleke as “good riddance.”

The party also stated that his move to the Accord Party would not alter his electoral prospects.

The Osun APC made this known in a statement signed by its chairman, Tajudeen Lawal, on Wednesday in Osogbo, in reaction to Governor Adeleke’s recent defection to the Accord Party ahead of the 2026 governorship election.

The party said Adeleke’s departure from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, announced last week and formalised on Tuesday at the Government House in Osogbo, had been expected.

According to APC, “the governor’s decision to join a new party did not offer any advantage,” claiming that “residents had discovered that he has been using deceits and subterfuge to run his wobbling administration.”

The statement accused Adeleke of abandoning PDP and its elected members for personal reasons, arguing that a committed leader would have addressed the party’s internal crises.

APC, which added that the defection did not amount to a genuine political realignment, asserted that Adeleke had been rejected by other political parties before joining the Accord Party.

It queried, “If Adeleke’s administration and political approaches are such a reason of pride, would he have been shamefully rejected by those political parties he earlier begged to accept him?”

The party further described the Accord Party as lacking national influence, stating that it had no single governor or any significant recognition in the country.

Lawal said APC welcomed Adeleke’s move, arguing that it would make it easier for the party to defeat him at the forthcoming governorship election.

He stated that Adeleke had already lost his re-election bid, adding that there was little time left to correct acts of misgovernance.

“The governor’s three-year performance had not met the developmental needs of the state. Both residents at home and abroad would be eager for a change in leadership,” he said.

The statement added that APC was entering the 2026 governorship election confident in its level of preparation and commitment to the electoral process.

The party also raised questions about previous remarks made by PDP leaders concerning defections, suggesting that Adeleke’s move reflected deeper political challenges.

DAILY POST had earlier reported that Governor Adeleke had announced the Accord Party as his new political platform.

This is as he also confirmed his intention to seek re-election in 2026.

Governor Adeleke made the declaration at the Banquet Hall of the Government House in Osogbo, in the presence of national and state leaders of the party, on Tuesday.

Adeleke stated that he had formally joined the Accord Party on November 6, 2025, after weeks of consultation and deliberation with stakeholders and opinion leaders.
