On Friday, the lifeless body of a man was found under the Okefia Bridge in Osogbo, Osun State. The reasons for the body’s presence at the site are still unclear, but witnesses noted that the man was partially unclad. A local trader, Chibuzor, mentioned that the body was first spotted around midday, which led concerned community members to inform security officials for further investigation. The Osun State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) responded quickly, joined by officials from the Osogbo West local government to help remove the body. A bag with clothes was found near the corpse. Authorities examined the area and gathered potential evidence to understand the circumstances of the man’s death. NSCDC spokesperson Adeleke Kehinde stated that the Command was conducting a thorough investigation and that local government officials were informed as soon as the situation was reported. She remarked, “Today, December 27, the lifeless body of an elderly man was discovered under the Oke Fia Bridge in Osogbo. The incident was quickly reported to the Water and Environmental Sanitation Department of Osogbo West LCDA and the Head of Local Government of Osogbo West. Arrangements were made immediately to remove the body to avoid decomposition.” An appeal has been made to enhance security at flyovers in the state. This request was communicated in a statement by Lamina Kamiludeen Omotoyosi, the Executive Director of the World Institute of Peace (WIP), on Saturday. Omotoyosi argued that ensuring the security of these flyovers will help prevent crimes in the area. He urged the Osun State Police Command and the state government to take measures to secure the flyovers in Osogbo. He noted that the discovery of a lifeless body under the Oke-Fia construction site is a concerning indication. He warned that without proper security, these bridges could become hiding places for criminals. “These flyovers must be secured so that residents can feel safe in Osogbo,” he stated.
