It was on Tuesday 2 September 2025 that the Dakar Métropole 2050 project was launched at the Grand Théâtre de Dakar, announcing a new era for the Senegalese capital. A city that claims its grandeur, assumes its ambition and designs its future. Under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko and the supervision of Bala Moussa Fofana, Minister of Urbanism, Territorial Collectivities and Territorial Planning, an ambitious vision was unveiled: Dakar Métropole 2050. “Dakar is the capital, the crossroads and the economic engine of Senegal. Its development requires vision, ambition and collective commitment, because it impacts the dynamics of the other poles. Nous avons 8 pôles, et notre option de pensée doit cesser de considérer les autres pôles uniquement à partir de Dakar. Since 1960, these 8 poles have been thought around Dakar, and this has been poorly designed.
Ousmane Sonko: “Dakar has become a saturated region! ”
