Moscow – One of the most eagerly awaited events of the spring recently took place in the capital: the grand Tram Parade, marking the 127th anniversary of the Moscow tram.
More than 200,000 residents and visitors attended the festivities.
For the first time, the procession of historic vehicles followed a new route — from Kursky railway station to Sergiya Radonezhskogo Street.
Along the route, Muscovites and tourists lined the streets to greet the carriages from different eras and cheer on the parade participants.
The main venue for the celebrations was a large-scale open-air exhibition of vintage transport.
Visitors were treated to over 50 unique exhibits, including 16 trams from different generations and around 40 vintage cars.
A packed cultural programme was organised for guests: musical performances, masterclasses, themed photo zones, and refreshments.
“We held the 21st Tram Parade. This mode of transport remains a true symbol of our city, loved by Muscovites of all generations,” said Maksim Liksutov, Moscow’s Deputy Mayor for Transport and Industry.
“Over 200 000 residents and visitors to the capital attended our festival, which has now become a cherished tradition.
“We will continue to develop the tram network, preserve its history and introduce the most modern technologies, as instructed by the Mayor of Moscow, Sergei Sobyanin.”
The Moscow Department of Transport emphasised that the development of tram infrastructure and the preservation of historical heritage remain key priorities for the capital’s transport sector.
