Chieftains and leaders of All Progressives Congress, APC, in Lagelu Local Government Area of Oyo State have rejected the outcome of the recently conducted local government congress of the party.
The APC chieftains stated their position in a petition addressed to the chairman of the party in the state, a copy of which was made available to DAILY POST on Wednesday.
The petition was signed by Chief Ajuwon James Olusegun (Ward 2), Chief Mrs Jemilat Adesina Ajimobi (Ward 4), Alhaji Chazali Remi Ajani (Ward 1), Fadiran Ilelabayo (Ward 12), Gbenga Ogeye (Ward 3), Engineer Toriola Oyesomi (Ward 8) and Sulaiman Soladoye (Ward 14).
Rejecting the outcome of the congress, they described it as another form of imposition.
They alleged that some individuals are instrumental to the imposition of candidates for various positions in the local government area.
The APC chieftains demanded the immediate review of the outcome of the local government congress and recognition and adoption of the authentic harmonised list of local government executives as approved by the national headquarters in Abuja.
The petition reads: āWe, the concerned leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagelu Local Government, hereby express our deep dissatisfaction and strong protest over the outcome of the recently conducted party congress in the local government. It is both sad and unfortunate that despite our earlier petitions and submissions before the Appeal Panel, the grievances of majority stakeholders have been ignored.
āRecent developments clearly indicate a deliberate attempt by certain individuals to destabilize and weaken the party structure in Lagelu Local Government. The collective decision of parry leaders across 14 wards, who in good faith agreed on a harmonized list of executive members to promote unity and cohesion, was unjustly overturned. This was done through the imposition of a list by an individual acting in connivance with external forces outside the local government.
āWe categorically reject any form of imposition of party executives by any elected official. The autonomy of the party at the grassroots must be respected, and the voices of genuine party leaders within Lagelu Local Government must not be silenced. We state unequivocally that we are in possession of documentary evidence confirming his prior romance and political alignment with the Governor and the opposition party in the state.
āAn immediate review of the outcome of the Lagelu Local Government congress.
Recognition and adoption of the authentic harmonized list of Local Government Executives as approved by the National Headquarters in Abuja.
āStrict implementation of the harmonized list for Ward Executives as approved by the National Headquarters in Abuja.
āA clear directive from the state leadership prohibiting any form of imposition of party executives by individuals, regardless of status or office.
āWe warn that the continued disregard for due process and party unity may have serious consequences for the strength and electoral prospects of the APC in Lagelu Local Government. We remain committed to the ideals of the party and urge the leadership at the state level to act swiftly and decisively in the interest of justice, fairness, and unity.ā
But Publicity Secretary, Wasiu Sadare, when contacted, noted that the party is aware of grievances in some local government areas.
Sadare who spoke with DAILY POST on Wednesday, said that the party is working to resolve the matter.
āWe are aware of grievances in some places. There are complains and there are hitches and the party is working around the clock to resolve the issues. They have to exercise patience. We have a process mechanism to resolve all the issues.
