The National Assembly voted on Friday to lift the parliamentary immunity of MP Salimata Diop, former Minister of Family, Gender and Child Protection. This decision follows a referral by the Minister of Justice, via the Procureur général près la Cour d’appel de Dakar. Of the 132 Members present, 118 voted in favour of the waiver of immunity, 14 opposed it and none abstained. The resolution proposed by the ad hoc commission authorizing the judiciary to initiate proceedings against the elected representative was approved.
