The political climate within the Jeunesse patriotique du Sénégal (JPS) is experiencing new shocks. In a communiqué dated 26 July 2025, the coordination of PASTEF at l’Université Cheikh Anta Diop de Dakar (UCAD) announced to have formally declined an invitation by the national coordinator of the JPS, Me Ngagne Demba Touré, to a meeting scheduled for Monday 28 July. In this document, les étudiants patriotes denounce a “context marked by a rupture of confidence in the JPS Nationale”, which they accuse of mutism in the face of the difficulties encountered by their comrades. PASTEF UCAD reproaches the National Youth Directorate of PASTEF for “the prolonged silence and lack of solidarity towards [their] comrades who are victims of exclusion and injustice”, behaviour which they declare they can no longer tolerate. In view of the suspicion that certain directors-general, ministers and other figures of the new regime are using the JPS to enhance their image to the detriment of the priorities on the ground, the coordination of PASTEF UCAD confirms that it has decided to decline from now on all invitations to this effect. The first of these rejected invitations is the one addressed by Ngagne Demba Touré. In the face of this situation, the student co-ordination affirms its recognition as a single political referent. “Pastef UCAD reaffirms that it recognizes only one legitimate interlocutor: President Ousmane Sonko, the bearer of the patriotic project which we serve with commitment and loyalty”, can be read in the communiqué. To clarify the opinion and publicly justify their position, the leaders of PASTEF UCAD announce the holding of a press conference this Thursday 31 July 2025 at 16h, at the party headquarters.
