PDP: The entry of expelled members into the secretariat confirms the new party leadership, according to the BoT.

The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has denounced the intrusion of expelled members into the party’s National Secretariat. In a statement released on Wednesday by BoT Chairman Adolphus Wabara, it was noted that this invasion reinforces the election of new party leadership during the National Convention in Ibadan. Wabara praised the bravery and determination of the Governors, National Working Committee (NWC), and other party leaders, as well as the many members and supporters, for standing against the intruders. He affirmed that the BoT fully supports the new NWC and the results of the Elective National Convention held in Ibadan, Oyo State, on November 15 and 16, 2025. He emphasized that the Convention was organized in accordance with the Party’s Constitution, Guidelines, the Electoral Act, and all relevant regulations, reflecting the collective decision of PDP delegates and stakeholders nationwide. The former Senate President condemned the statements and actions of those lawfully expelled from the party. “The BoT also criticizes the expelled individuals who incited thugs in an attempt to disrupt the activities of the newly elected NWC members led by National Chairman Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, SAN, alongside the Governor of Bauchi State and Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, Senator Bala Mohammed, and his counterpart from Oyo State, Engr.” Seyi Makinde and other party leaders were denied entry into the complex. Tear gas was used against the governors and party leaders, while thugs inflicted brute violence on the PDP National Secretariat. Their efforts to question the legitimacy of the Ibadan Convention and provoke chaos within the party are both deceitful and a blatant attack on Nigeria’s internal democracy. The Board of Trustees urges the Inspector-General of Police to probe these attacks on the PDP National Secretariat and guarantee that the culprits face justice. “Democracy flourishes only in environments where institutions are unbiased, professional, and protected from political interference,” the statement expressed.
