A member representing Ijebu-North State Constituency and former Minority Whip of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Rasheed Kashamu has dumped the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, for the ruling All Progressives Congress, citing irreconcilable differences and divisions leading to the polarisation of the party at the state and national levels.
Reading Kashamu’s letter today at the plenary, the Speaker, Oludaisi Elemide said the lawmaker formally notified the House of his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party and his decision to join the APC, citing factional disputes at the national level and leadership tussles at the state level as reasons for his defection.
Kashamu said he aligned his decision to join hands with other Progressives in the State to support Governor Abiodun’s strides under Iseya Agenda and the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
According to him, “after a review of the current state of affairs with the PDP at the National Level with factions and unresolved leadership crises, and as someone who rode on the pro-people legacy and support of my constituents in Ijebu North 1 state consistency, I have agreed with my leaders and teeming supporters that we should move enmass into the APC in order to bring our wining formula in Ijebu North 1 into APC and fully support Mr Governor’s ISEYA agenda as well as the Renewed Hope Agenda of the President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR.
He informed the House that he had joined the APC at his Oke-Sopen ward, Ijebu-Igbo 1, Ijebu North Local Government Area, alongside his teeming supporters from across Ijebu North.
“I have since joined the APC at my ward in Oke Sopen, Ijebu Igbo, Ijebu North Local Government Area of Ogun State”.
In another development, the Assembly has also acknowledged a letter from Governor Dapo Abiodun, requesting the confirmation of Mr Abdul Najeem Olayinka as the new Auditor-General for Local Governments, following the retirement of the immediate-past Auditor General, Mr Lamidi Mulero.
The Speaker directed the nominee to appear before the House on Wednesday, 17th December, 2025 by 12 pm; and that he should submit 30 copies each of his Curriculum Vitae and other credentials by Tuesday, 16th December by 10 a.m.
