On the occasion of the information sharing workshop on the governance of the extractive sector, the Minister of Energy, Petroleum and Mines reaffirmed the Senegalese Government’s commitment to transparency, accountability and citizen dialogue. Organized in collaboration with the Association des Journalistes pour la Transparence dans les Ressources Extractives et la Préservation de l’Environnement (AJTREPE), this meeting was held to highlight the progress made by Senegal in the management of its natural resources. The Minister welcomed the massive presence of specialised press actors, underlining their crucial role in supporting the governance process. “You are the watchmen of the public interest”, he declared, calling on journalists to exercise their mission with rigor and ethics, in a context where economic and social issues are considerable. Among the major achievements highlighted were the publication of petroleum and mining contracts, the creation of an intergenerational fund, and transparency around the revenues from resource exploitation. The Minister announced, on an exclusive basis, the record sale of 3.8 million barrels of oil from the Sangomar field in April 2025 and the export of more than 163 000 m3 of LNG in the framework of the GTA project. Faced with the risks of disinformation, the Minister stressed the need for a journalism based on facts and specialization. He called on the media to avoid sensationalism, recalling that “transparency should not be a slogan, but a living practice”. The meeting ended with an appeal for the co-construction of a permanent exchange framework between the State and media professionals, with the common objective of building the extractive sector as a lever of lasting prosperity for present and future generations.
