Petroleum: Trump renounces to surtax la Chine after his discussions with Putin

In the aftermath of the summit in Alaska, Donald Trump declared on American television that he was waiving a surtax on China because of its purchases of Russian oil. The American president explained this reversal by the progress he claims to have achieved with Vladimir Putin in order to end the war in Ukraine. At the beginning of August 2025, Donald Trump had threatened additional customs duties on countries that bought Russian oil and gas. It was a means of putting pressure on Moscow, for Vladimir Putin to participate in negotiations on Ukraine. The threat had already taken shape since India had been punished for its purchases of Russian oil by a doubling of US customs duties on its products: 50% applicable on 27 August. We don’t have to think about it now. But following the summit in Alaska, Donald Trump declared that he would refrain from doing the same with China.
