Plan Sonko: The tourism and hospitality sector is showing a fear…

During the presentation of his plan for the recovery of the economy, the Prime Minister, Ousmane Sonko, announced the application of visa reciprocity. This decision has revived fears in the tourism and hotel sector. Professionals fear the return of biometric visas, seen as a potential brake on Senegal’s attractiveness. Contacted by Walf Quotidien, Boubacar Sabaly, a figure of the sector, recalled the consequences of a similar decision in 2013. At the time, under the regime of Macky Sall, the introduction of biometric visas, while Youssou Ndour was Minister of Tourism, had had “negative effects” on the sector. The measure had finally been abandoned in 2015. The interlocutor of the journal, while awaiting to know the exact modalities of application of the announced measure, fears that the same scenario will be repeated. The government, for its part, expects this measure to generate 60 billion CFA francs over three years.
