Police arrest four suspected cultists, recover firearms in Edo

Operatives of the Edo State Police Command have arrested four suspected cult members and recovered a cache of firearms during a targeted operation in Uromi, Esan North-East Local Government Area.

The operation, carried out in the early hours of March 24, 2026, was based on credible intelligence, according to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Eno Ikedem.

The suspects were identified as Solomon Oboigbe, 27, of Ewoyi Quarters; Fidelis Omale, 26, of Atani; Julius Oseyomon, 64, also of Atani; and Abraham Erumosele Momo, 54, of Eco Obedo, all residents of Uromi.

Items recovered from the suspects include four pump-action rifles, nine live cartridges, and three spent shells.

Preliminary findings by the police suggest that the suspects are affiliated with the Eiye Confraternity and that the weapons in their possession were illegally obtained.

Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Monday Agbonika, commended the operatives for their professionalism and swift response, noting that the command would continue its intensified operations against cultism and the spread of illegal arms.

“The Command remains resolute in its efforts to rid the state of cultism and other violent crimes,” he said, reaffirming the commitment to strengthened security measures.

Following the conclusion of initial investigations, the suspects have been arraigned in court.

The police also urged members of the public to continue providing credible and timely information to aid security operations, assuring that such information would be handled with strict confidentiality.

Authorities reiterated their resolve to protect lives and property across Edo State.
