
The Jigawa State Police Command has said that a joint security operation has led to the arrest of three suspected armed robbers and fraudsters in Birnin Kudu Local Government Area.
The operation took place in the early hours of January 10, 2026, at about 2 am, at Bariki Fulani Settlement, Rugar Fulani, and Kwangara Village in Sundumina District.
This was contained in a statement signed on Sunday by the Police Public Relations Officer, Jigawa State Police Command, SP Shiisu Lawan Adam.
The statement added that the operation involved officers of the Nigeria Police Force, Nigerian Army, DSS, NSCDC, and local vigilantes.
Police arrested three suspects identified as Adamu Abubakar, 30; Sale Yakubu, 30; and Mamman Saidu,17.
During a search, security operatives recovered several items, including a locally made gun, two red Boxer motorcycles, eight fake 50,000 Somalia shillings notes, five Tecno mobile phones, power bank, knife, machete, and N289,620, believed to be proceeds of crime.
According to preliminary findings, the suspects allegedly tricked victims by pretending to exchange foreign currency before ambushing and robbing them of their belongings.
The suspects are currently in custody, while investigations continue to identify other members of the gang and ensure proper prosecution.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Dahiru Muhammad, commended the officers involved in the operation and reaffirmed the commitment of security agencies to protect lives and property in Jigawa State.
He also urged residents to remain vigilant and support security agencies with useful information.
