The Nigeria Police Force Spokesman, Benjamin Hundeyin, says the police have not abdicated their responsibilities but are working in collaboration with other security agencies in fighting crime and terrorism.
Hundeyin, made this known on Tuesday when he featured in an interview on Arise Television monitored by DAILY POST.
He said that the Nigeria police helicopters have been in use, not just in the last case of Kogi and Kwara states, adding that the operation is cost-effective, but they made judicious use of the resources at their disposal.
“Security is actually everyone’s business. It is a collective responsibility. So security business in Nigeria is being handled by the police in collaboration with other security agencies.
“At no point, have the police abdicated their responsibilities, instead what we can see is working with everyone, not just even uniformed agencies, we even work with the populace. We encourage people to work with the police to achieve better security.
“Talking about our helicopters, I would say that they were not just packed somewhere. They’ve been in use. In fact, they’ve always been in support operations in the Northeast.
“If you want me to be specific about challenges, oh definitely it’s cost effective, very costly and to fuel it is not like your car that you could get full tank with N70,000.
“You need more but that notwithstanding, we make very judicious use of the resources available to us but we would like to point out that the success recorded in Kogi is a pointer to the fact that with more resources, then definitely we will get more success,” he stated.
