
The Edo State Police Command has rescued 11 passengers abducted by gunmen along the Benin-Lagos Expressway.
Report claims that a driver was killed during the attack.
According to a report by Zagazola Makama, the incident happened around 11:55 p.m. on December 20 at Isiuwa, Edo State.
A security source said the attackers first opened fire on the driver of an Audi vehicle carrying plantains and two passengers.
Shortly after, the gunmen also attacked a Toyota Hiace bus heading from Lagos to Akwa Ibom with 10 passengers on board.
The bus was driven by Ubong Edet Okon.
“The bandits took the passengers into the bush,” the source said.
The source explained that police operatives were quickly deployed to the area, leading to the rescue of 11 of the abducted passengers.
Those rescued are Alhaji Mustapha Urmar, Queen Ogbowan, Blessing Ofem, Gift Sunday, Asngua Adakama, Ime Edet, Abasi Okon Nduye, Blessing Augustine Akpan, Thomas Kollins, Happiness Moses, and Victoria Nkemie. The source added that two passengers are still missing.
He also said the injured driver of the Toyota Hiace was rushed to Igbinedion University Teaching Hospital, where medical personnel later confirmed him dead.
The driver’s body has been deposited at the hospital morgue for preservation and autopsy.
Police said search and combing operations are ongoing to rescue the remaining victims and arrest those responsible for the attack.
