Police rescue five abducted students of Rivers State University

The Rivers State Police Command has confirmed that the five students kidnapped from Rivers State University (RSU) have been freed.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, the rescue operation took place on Thursday morning in Rumudogo 2 Community, Emuoha Local Government Area.

In a statement, the Command said its tactical teams led the operation “in collaboration with other security agencies and with support from the local community.”

The rescued students, four males and one female; are Prince London, Azubuike Kelechukwu, Elizabeth Aniete, Onyebuchi Precious, and London Sampson.

They were abducted by unidentified cultists from their isolated residences but were rescued unharmed, the police confirmed.

Iringe-Koko added that the students have been taken to the hospital for medical checks, while “efforts are ongoing to track down and arrest the fleeing abductors.”

Police Commissioner Olugbenga Adepoju warned the perpetrators that they would “face the full force of the law” and called for continued cooperation from security agencies, the community, and the public.

He also assured residents that they can carry out their daily activities safely, as their security remains a top priority.

The victims were abducted from an off-campus residence at one of RSU’s satellite campuses in Emuoha LGA in the early hours of Tuesday.

This incident comes almost a week after another off-campus residence was attacked, during which students’ property was stolen and one student was stabbed while trying to protect a female student.

During Tuesday’s attack, a security dog was shot dead.

Following the incident, the management of RSU temporarily suspended lessons at the Emuoha campus.

In the meantime, students have requested to be relocated to the main campus over safety concerns.
