The PASTEF Les Patriotes party welcomed, in a communiqué made public on Tuesday, the will of President Bassirou Diomaye Diakhar Faye to proceed with a restructuring of the political coalition “Diomaye Président”, estimating that this approach aims to “build a stronger coalition, in the service of the positive popularization of the action of the Government “… However, the party led by Ousmane Sonko was obliged to provide several precisions concerning this process. According to PASTEF, the coalition’s restructuring project has already been engaged following the presidential election of March 2024. The Conference of Leaders, chaired by Madame Aïssatou Mbodj, had been charged with conducting this work. The communiqué states that “all the draft preparatory texts, including the charter, the internal regulation and the structuring, have already been elaborated and shared with the various components of the coalition, in an inclusive framework”. These documents are currently awaiting validation by the members. PASTEF also indicated that a new name, “Alliance Patriotique pour le Travail et l’Éthique (APTE) “, had been proposed to replace “Diomaye Président”, considering that the latter had already achieved its electoral objective. The party further specifies that Bassirou Diomaye Faye has never been president of the coalition, but only its candidate in the presidential election. In fact, he does not have the power to dismiss Madame Aïssatou Mbodj, designated by the Conference of Leaders to Assure the Presidency. Finally, PASTEF affirms ne pas se reconnaître dans toute initiative coordonnée par Madame Aminata Touré, estimating that “no common ground exists on the values and principles” between the two parties. The party announced to pursue its own political agenda, centred on the merger with allied organizations, the enlargement of its militant base, and the completion of the APTE coalition, under the presidency of Aïssatou Mbodj.
