According to his relatives, Makaty Camara was on a private beach at the time of the events, a place supposed to be secure. Or, the video surveillance appears incomplete or inoperable, and the information provided so far by the site’s managers does not convince the family. They consider the attitude of the local authorities vague and denounce a lack of transparency. The father of the deceased has launched a pressing appeal to the Senegalese authorities to intervene in this matter and collaborate with their Moroccan counterparts in order to open a rigorous investigation. He demands that all light be shed on this death which, according to him, cannot be classified as a simple accident. This drama revives according to Senenews the debate on the security of Senegalese nationals abroad, particularly in the relaxation areas often presented as risk-free.
