On the eve of the Grand Magal of Touba, the President of the Republic, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, is expected this Thursday 7 August in the holy city. This visit, which has become a republican ritual, is part of the tradition of exchanges between the state and religious authorities in the run-up to this great spiritual and social event of the Senegalese Muslim calendar. The Head of State will be received by the Khalife général des Mourides, Serigne Mountakha Mbacké, for an audience focused mainly on the preparations of the Magal, which attracts every year millions of faithful from Senegal and the diaspora. In addition to the organization of this major religious event, the meeting will also be an opportunity to discuss issues of national interest, but also on specific dossiers to the city of Touba, often related to infrastructure, sanitation, security or urban mobility during the Magal period.
