President-elect John Dramani Mahama has nominated Alban Bagbin as the Speaker for Ghana’s 9th Parliament. Following consultations and a consensus between the National Executive and the National Democratic Congress ( NDC )’s (NC ) Parliamentary Leadership, the announcement was made on January 5, 2025.
Bagbin, who formerly served as the Speaker of the 8th Parliament, brings considerable knowledge to the table. His long-lasting political career includes serving in the positions of Minority and Majority Leader, and he has also represented Nadowli in Parliament. His election was primarily based on his deep understanding of political affairs and commitment to the service of the nation.
In a speech from the Transition Team’s Spokesperson, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, President-elect Mahama expressed complete trust in Bagbin’s ability to foster unity and maintain effective oversight of Parliament. Bagbin’s important contributions to Ghana’s political and legislative progress were also highlighted in the statement, which added to Bagbin’s assurance that his leadership will be crucial at this crucial time.
