Professor Theo Venter Is Named DA Mayoral Candidate For JB Marks Municipality

Potchefstroom – The Democratic Alliance (DA) has named Professor Theo Venter as the party’s Mayoral Candidate for the JB Marks Municipality in the North West.

The announcement was made during the DA’s North West Provincial Congress held in Potchefstroom earlier today, Saturday, 7 February 2026.

“Professor Venter brings an exemplary career of political expertise and academic excellence to this all-important role for the people of JB Marks,” the DA said.

His track record includes:

• Being Special Advisor to two North West University Vice-Chancellors,
• Named Agriculturalist of the Year by journalists in the sector in 2015,
• A recognised academic and a previous fellow of North York University

The announcement of Theo Venter as the DA’s Mayoral Candidate for JB Marks represents the DA’s serious intention to challenge for power in JB Marks in the upcoming local government election.

“A candidate of this calibre, leading the charge for the DA, bodes well for the campaign in JB Marks,” the DA said.

“Professor Venter will cross the lengths and breadths of JB Marks Municipality to engage with residents of all communities.

“The voices of the residents of JB Marks must be heard, and must translate into action to get JB Marks working, and repair what is broken.”
