Rain doesn’t hamper Abagqilazi FC

Tsakani – The U17 game at the Back to School tournament took place in unpleasant rain on April 1, at the Ext 13 Green Point ground.

The game between Abagqilazi FC and Kopano FC started on a high note as each team player applied focus while running on the slippery ground.

Abagqilazi FC scored two goals just before half-time putting pressure on their opponents. Their coach, Sanele Yikani said they dominated the game and created scoring opportunities for themselves.

“Our opponents failed to capitalise on our weaknesses hence we managed to score the two goals in the first half.

“We could not score more goals in the second half and I blame the rain. Our opponents scored their first goal in the second half after realising that we struggled to play on the muddy pitch,” explained Yikani.

The game ended in favour of Abagqilazi FC with a score of 2-1. Yikani mentioned that his team draws motivation from the Pirates, citing that they always strive for perfection.

He further indicated that there are mistakes that he noted during the game which he needs to address during practice.

“A mistake that I noted from my team, and aim to rectify, is the overconfidence they have when playing with their peers. They tend to undermine their opponents and relax just too much.

“When playing with older age groups, they do not behave that way. Apart from that, I am happy we won the game and we aim to win many more games,” he added.

The game took place in rainy weather conditions.

The Kopano FC coach, Boy Mkhabela highlighted that he is not disappointed by how the game concluded.

“My boys have never played in the rain and having them score one goal indicated that they were willing to win. They displayed a lot of interest in the game, gave it their best shot but there has to be a winner at the end of the day.

“I will focus more on my players, guide them even more and motivate that to always find ways to overcome their fears. They were scared to play in the rain,” he said.

He added that he is happy with his team’s performance adding that his team will win other games.
