Springs Premier Football Club narrowly lost 5-4 to Daveyton All Stars in an emotional U12 League 5 match at Veritas College on Saturday morning.
The game began with high emotions, especially from the coaches on both sides. Jayden Ralash troubled the opposing defence, scoring two goals to open the scoring for Springs Premier.
By halftime, the score was tied 2-2. In the second half, Ralash added a third goal for his team.
The tension between the coaches spilled onto the field, as strikers from both teams got physical, resulting in Ralash receiving a yellow card – the team’s second card of the match.
A goal from Tokollo Maditjane briefly put Springs Premier ahead, but All Stars responded with two more goals to regain the lead.
An injury to the Springs Premier goalkeeper led to added time, giving All Stars the chance to secure the win with a fifth goal.
Springs Premier coach Chosen Eddie expressed pride in his team despite the loss. He noted that All Stars are one of the most successful clubs in the league but said his players were undeterred.
“We were the first team in the league to score four goals against Daveyton All Stars. I’m proud of the team because they showed great energy and determination,” said Eddie.
“We made small mistakes, but overall, I’m happy. With performances like this, I believe the next results will go our way.”
Ralash, who earned man of the match honours, said he was pleased to have scored despite the defeat. He added that the yellow card didn’t affect him much but taught him a lesson for future games.
“My team lost, but we must never lose hope because there are more games ahead,” he said.
All Stars coach Wandile Mahlangu said he was happy with the win despite early tension between the coaches.
“To be honest, we took this game. We didn’t expect Springs Premier to come at us so early, but I’m glad we came out on top,” said Mahlangu.
Springs Premier will face Olympia FC away at Italian Sporting Club next Saturday.
