The Senator representing Kano South Senatorial District, Senator Abdurahman Sulaiman Kawu Sumaila, has described the alleged rejection of his Ramadan rice gifts by some constituents as dangerous political blackmail by his political enemies.
A group of politicians were seen in a viral video circulating on social media returning five bags of rice which they alleged had been given to them by Senator Kawu Sumaila.
They claimed that the five bags were meant for the entire Albasu Local Government Area of Kano South Senatorial District.
However, reacting to the alleged rejection of the Ramadan gift, Senator Sulaiman Abdurrahman Kawu Sumaila said it was merely political blackmail.
According to him, “We gave each and every LGA 500 bags and we attended to groups and individuals which made it almost 15,000 bags. Somebody short-changed them along the line.”
He added, “They choose to go to press with a view to blackmailing us. We will deal with the situation. It’s all politics.
“Anytime you deal with humans, you are bound to encounter such a problem. It’s normal as a human being to have encountered such a situation in life but that won’t deter me from doing welfare to my constituents.”
