
The Adamawa State Government has imposed a 24-hour curfew on Lamurder Local Government Area.
The government says the curfew followed a renewed communal clash which resurfaced Sunday evening in the area.
āAlready, security agencies have been directed to restore law and order in the local government area with immediate effect,ā the government said in a statement issued Monday morning by Deputy Governor Kaletapwa Farautaās Press Secretary, Hussaini Hammangabdo.
āGovernment is appealing for calm in the area,ā the statement added.
On its own, the state command of the Nigeria Police says it has deployed personnel to the troubled LGA to keep law and order.
āFollowing the declaration of 24-hour curfew by the state government over the violent attacks and breach of peace within some communities in Lamurde local government area, the Adamawa State Police Command wishes to advise members of the public particularly those within Lamurde LGA, to respectfully comply with such order and stay indoors,ā the command said just before noon Monday.
In a statement signed by the state police image maker, SP Suleiman Nguroje, the command said the state Commissioner of Police, CP Dankombo Morris, has deployed more operational assets of the command to the areas to monitor compliance and enforce the curfew using all legal means.
āThe command in collaboration with sister security agencies while respecting the rights of the citizens equally enjoy them to avoid all forms of action capable of threatening the security in the area,ā the police stated.
