​Residence card: The government rejects the accusations of reprisal against the Mauritanians 

  The Senegalese government was obliged to make a clear statement on the conditions of stay of Mauritanian nationals, following the circulation of rumors accusing the State of Dakar of having taken reprisal measures against them. In a communiqué made public on 28 July 2025, the Ministry of African Integration and Foreign Affairs firmly denied these allegations. “Contrary to some allegations relayed in recent days, the State of Senegal has not taken any measures of reprisal or discrimination against Mauritanian citizens residing on its territory”, can be read in the official communiqué. The Ministry recalls that the requirement of a residence card for all foreigners wishing to settle in Senegal beyond three months is nothing new. It is a general rule, in force since 1971, which applies to all foreigners, without distinction of nationality. ” The requirement of a residence permit. In addition, the Senegalese authorities point out that a bilateral agreement was concluded with Mauritania on 2 June 2025 with the objective of establishing a reciprocal treatment between the nationals of the two countries.
