A trench, a power outage, and a dangerous hole. Kwa-Thema residents are left in the dark and in danger. One woman’s driveway dilemma highlights a bigger issue.

Kwa-Thema – Precious Mathibela has been unable to park her car in her yard since technicians dug a trench across her driveway. Mathibela said she and some neighbours in Ext 1 experienced a power outage on May 14.

“The outage was reported. A technician was sent to fix the issue and resolved it,” she said.

Another outage occurred on May 17. After more than three days without power, residents escalated the matter.

“The issue continued, and contractors were assigned to our case. They found the fault after digging between my main entrance gate and garage on May 22,” she said.

The work remained incomplete on May 23.

“They returned on May 26. Power was restored, but they left a large open hole with live cables, making it dangerous for us to enter or exit the house safely,” she added.

Mathibela said the municipal manager and technicians claimed the electrical cables had been tampered with by an unauthorised person.

A request for the CoE’s comment remained unanswered at the time of publication.
