Retrait des États Unis de l’OMS: An Italian employee is working on a cagnotte and is harvesting…

People can give plus. They give 220, 5, 10, 100 dollars. Some 20 people have donated more than 500 dollars”, underlines Mme Cernuschi. These funds will be so welcome that Argentina has announced that it will also withdraw from the WHO, due to “profound differences on health management” and “the political influence of some states”. In a few days, the quadragénaire has raised more than 8,0003 dollars. The largest donations come from the United States, Switzerland, France, Germany, Italy and Sweden, but the whole world contributes. Donald Trump has justified the American withdrawal by the gap between the American and Chinese financial contributions, accusing the WHO of “arnacking” the United States. During his first term, he had already tried in 2020 to withdraw his country from the WHO, which he accuses of having mismanaged the Covid-19 pandemic and being “controlled by China”. “Individual donations are essential for many international organizations”, as for UNICEF which “collects more than a billion dollars a year”, but it was not the case for WHO, explains Anil Soni, director of the WHO Foundation, launched in 2020 to just mobilize private financing. Since then, “we have constituted a community of 40,000” individual donors, who have contributed globally 6 million dollars, to which are added 26 million dollars collected from companies since 2021, including 5 million from Meta, the mother of Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp. Madame Cernuschi did not expect to exceed 200 dollars.
