​Riots of 2021: Macky Sall assumes the firmness of the state response 

  The former president of Senegal, Macky Sall, breaks the silence on the riots of March 2021 in his book “L’Afrique au cœur”,. In this book, he gives a personal and detailed reading of this episode which he considers to be an “attempt to destroy the State”, orchestrated, according to him, by a fringe of the opposition determined to destroy the institutions. “I deplore all the more that a climate of riots has been established in 2021 by the opposition while violence had never been a means of overcoming political differences”, writes Macky Sall, not without recalling that before this crisis, political rivalries in Senegal always found a solution “in a peaceful way”, thanks to a national temperament ” I would like to see Revenant on the brutality of the events, it depicts a “sudden and coordinated eruption of violence” against the symbols of the Republic: ministerial buildings, public infrastructures, electricity and water networks, but also the TER and the construction of the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT). The former head of state evokes the striking images of students “incendiating their own university” before “celebrating this autodafé”, a symbol, according to him, of a disturbing slide into irrationality. Faced with this chaos, Macky Sall claims the firmness of the governmental response. “Faced with this gratuitous violence, the State had to remain standing. I assumed it.
