Shehu Gabam, the National Chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), has shared details of his conversation with the former governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai. During an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Thursday, Gabam stated that there is nothing inappropriate about engaging in discussions with the ex-governor. He questioned the controversy surrounding Malam Nasir El-Rufai. They claim he is not important. He is insignificant. What’s the concern about El-Rufai? What is the concern regarding Segun Sowunmi? He asked, “If they are important, why isn’t the government assigning them the necessary roles to improve its efficiency?” He mentioned that the purpose of the meeting was to strategically assess the country’s situation in 2024 as a political party. “We are an opposition party with representatives in parliament, state assemblies, and local governments.” As a party, we have a responsibility to examine the areas where we are struggling and to engage with more people. “This is similar to what the APC did when the PDP was facing issues; they reorganized, regrouped, and relaunched a merger that resulted in the PDP’s defeat. “Therefore, we are not doing anything inappropriate. I don’t understand why there’s such a fuss about it as if it’s the first time Nasir El-Rufai or Segun Sowunmi, who is a friend of mine, has visited.
