On 3 April 2025, on the eve of the 65th anniversary of the independence of Senegal, President Bassirou Diomaye Diakhar Faye addressed a strong message to the nation. In his speech, marked by solemnity and commitment, he underlined the challenges to be met and reaffirmed his ambition of transformation for a sovereign, just and prosperous Senegal. President Faye stressed the importance of living together and of national cohesion, recalling that the unity of the Senegalese people is based on values inherited from previous generations. In a context where the country is marked by economic and social challenges, he stressed the need to combine efforts to ensure stability and progress. Faced with an economic situation requiring structural adjustments, the government initiated a series of reforms aimed at restoring public finances. The rationalization of expenditure, the optimisation of local finances and the rigorous management of debt are among the key measures adopted to ensure long-term financial viability. Concrete actions have already been put in place, notably the progressive payment of arrears owed to agricultural operators and BTP enterprises, as well as support for the economic empowerment of women through phase 2 of the PAVIE programme. Since Senegal is now an oil and gas producing country, the President reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring a transparent and environmentally friendly exploitation of these strategic resources.
