Senegal and Turkey: a strategic agreement to mechanise agriculture and achieve food sovereignty

Senegal has taken a new step towards food sovereignty with the signing of a strategic agreement between the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Livestock (MASAE), the Ministry of Industry and Commerce (MINCOM) and the Turkish Albayrak Group. This initiative, promoted by the Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko during a diplomatic mission in Turkey, aims to modernise in depth the national agricultural sector. The Memorandum of Understanding provides for the provision of 1 500 tractors with accessories, 1 500 harvesters and 1 500 motor-cultivators, leased to farmers on advantageous terms. The State will provide a partial subsidy to facilitate access to these equipment, while the Albayrak Group will provide maintenance, spare parts, technical assistance and user training. The project also includes the installation of an assembly plant in Senegal in the medium term and the creation of a public training school to promote the transfer of know-how. The State undertakes to develop industrial zones, to apply the Investment Code and to facilitate administrative procedures. For their part, the MASAE and MINCOM will coordinate the implementation, the communication with farmers and the management of subsidies.
