The Sénégal River continues to rise in the department of Podor, where the coast of alert has been crossed since 14 September last. This Monday, at 8 o’clock, the ladder installed at El Hadj Boubou Sall Quay registered a level of 5.29 metres, an increase of two centimetres in 24 hours. Yesterday at the same hour, the water level was 5.27 metres. As a comparison, last year, in the same period, the river was 5.20 metres. Faced with this progression, the authorities call for vigilance and recall the efforts undertaken to strengthen the protection mechanisms. Le Génie militaire and several Senegalese companies are also continuing the rehabilitation of dikes in riverside villages, while numerous local initiatives are emerging to cope with the rising waters. The populations are invited to remain prudent, vigilant and mobilized in this hydrological context marked by a constant upward trend.
