The National Consultation Commission on the Lunar Crescent (CONACOC), meeting this Friday in the premises of RTS, the public television, has announced that Ramadan, the period of fasting of Muslims in Senegal, begins on Sunday, 2 March. In a communiqué received by APS, it declares that the lunar crescent has not been seen in any locality in the country. Accordingly, Sunday, 2 March 2025 will be the first day of the lunar month of Ramadan ou koor’ (in Wolof). CONACOC specifies that this declaration is made after having collected all the information from its representatives in the different localities of Senegal, ‘in agreement with all the religious families and the government’. The Coordination des musulmans du Sénégal (C.L.), which meets this Friday, also fixes the beginning of Ramadan on Saturday, March 1. “After having received information from its national and international correspondents, the Commission informs you that the moon has been sighted in Senegal: à Sadio (Diourbel), and in the Muslim world: in Gambia, in Côte d’Ivoire, in Burkina Faso, in Chad, in Niger, in Mauritania, in Saudi Arabia, in the Sultanate of Oman”, it said in a communiqué.
