​Shipwreck of a migrant pirogue in Mauritania: several bodies thrown overboard, including Senegalese 

  A new drama of irregular emigration occurred on Wednesday 27 August 2025 off the Mauritanian coast, north of Tanit. A pirogue departing from Gambia and carrying a hundred migrants in the direction of the Canary Islands a chaviré.. According to concordant sources, only 17 survivors were able to be rescued by the Mauritanian coastguards. The sea has dumped several bodies on the beaches of the shipwreck zone. Among the victims, Senegalese have been identified. In a video taken by Senegalese in Mauritania, including Dakaractu, Guédé Bousso watched an identity card found on a body bearing the name of Mame Bara Ndiaye, originally from Touba. Papers containing his family’s telephone numbers were also discovered.
