The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has praised the Bola Tinubu administration for what it described as a more disciplined and less theatrical approach to the renegotiation of the ASUU–Federal Government agreement.
This is even as ASUU indirectly mocked former Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige.
In a post on its official Facebook page on Friday, ASUU said the renegotiation process, which began in October 2024 under Tinubu, marked a sharp contrast with past engagements between the union and government officials.
The union noted that, unlike previous negotiations, the current process proceeded without what it described as excessive media grandstanding, theatrical posturing and unrestrained public commentary by government representatives.
Although it did not mention names directly, the union’s reference to “Okija shrine theatrics” was widely interpreted as a jab at former labour minister Chris Ngige, under whose tenure ASUU frequently clashed with the Federal Government amid prolonged strikes and public disputes.
