A member of the Sokoto State Community Guard Corps tragically shot himself dead shortly after being involved in a joint operation that rescued 66 kidnap victims in the state. The operation, which was led by the Nigerian Army, took place on Monday in Tidibali Forest in eastern Sokoto State. Colonel Ahmed Usman (rtd), Special Adviser to Governor Ahmed Aliyu on Security, confirmed to Daily Trust that the operative died from an accidental discharge. “The incident happened soon after the team returned to their base from the operation,” Usman said. “He was handling his weapon when it accidentally discharged, resulting in fatal injuries.” He passed away soon after. Usman emphasized the advancements in the current operation funded by the state government to fight against banditry. “Up to now, 66 abducted individuals have been rescued, and numerous bandits have been taken out during the operation,” he stated. “The mission continues as we strive to eliminate criminal elements, particularly bandits, from the state.” The rescued individuals were taken to Isa town in the Isa Local Government Area.
