The Sonic the Hedgehog drama series has sped past a large step, earning over R18 billion worldwide.
This achievement cements its reputation as one of the highest-grossing movie game adaptations. This is presented in addition to Resident Evil and The Super Mario Bros. Movie.
SONIC The HEDGEHOG 3
The second payment, Sonic the Hedgehog 3, released on 20 December 2024, has now earned R6 billion globe, according to Deadline.
Combined with the R6.9 billion grossed by Sonic 2 and the R5.5 billion earned by the 2020 classic, the show’s complete now stands at R18.4 billion.
No slowing over is a goal for Paramount Pictures. A third film is already being planned by the studio, which will be released in early 2027.
JIM CARREY AND THE SONIC THE HEDGEHOG FRANCHISE
Director Jeff Fowler teased the transfer of Jim Carrey, who plays the quirky monster, Dr Ivo Robotnik.
Fowler told Variety,” Jim loves entertaining young people. If we pitch him the correct plan, he’ll get back”.
Jim Carrey, then 62, had recently announced plans to retire from acting. Nevertheless, he returned for Sonic 3, citing economic factors. ” I bought a lot of things and needed the money”, he joked during an exam.
Despite this, Carrey expressed love for the job. ” I enjoy playing this talent figure. It’s a storm working with this group and connecting with enthusiasts”, he said, according to Screen Rant.
THE HEDGEHOG 3 THE Put OF SONIC THE CAST OF Sound
In Sonic the Hedgehog 3, Sonic, voiced by Ben Schwartz, teams up with Tails ( ColleenO’Shaughnessey ) and his human ally Tom Wachowski ( James Marsden ).
They team up to stop Shadow the Hedgehog ( Keanu Reeves ) from wreaking havoc. The movie also stars Krysten Ritter and Idris Elba, adding to its star-studded elegance, according to IMDB.
The movie made a strong debut at the North American field office, where video game alterations have a loyal following.
OTHER BOX OFFICE HITS
Despite opposition from Disney’s Mufasa: The Lion King, which claimed the best place next weekend, Sonic 3 held its ground.
While Mufasa earned R452 million worldwide in its second trip, Sonic 3 wasn’t far behind with R400 million.
Local players and children have praised the company for staying true to its Sega origins while remaining accessible.
” It’s fun, fast, and family-friendly”, said a Durban viewer.

The success of the Sonic films shows how well-known video game alterations are becoming. With well-loved figures, strong humour, and brilliant effects, the movies have resonated worldwide.
In South Africa, where gambling society is thriving, this has fuelled yet greater enthusiasm for Sonic’s activities.
