​South Africa: Mr Oumar Doumbouya, Director of the External Bureaux of the European Parliament received by Mr El Malick Ndiaye 

  In the context of the annual Conference of the Presidents of the African Parliaments, the President of the National Assembly of Senegal, Mr El Malick Ndiaye, received in audience, on Monday 29 September in Johannesburg, Mr Oumar Doumbouya, Director of the European Parliament’s External Offices. During the meeting, Mr Doumbouya presented the missions of these offices, in particular their role of accompanying the Pan-African Parliament, and expressed the wish to establish a direct and structured relationship with the National Assembly of Senegal. It also proposed the establishment of training and exchange programmes for parliamentarians, while mentioning the prospect of an official invitation from the Senegalese authorities to the European Parliament. In response, President El Malick Ndiaye reaffirmed the National Assembly’s readiness to develop a fruitful partnership, building on the work of its various committees. It stressed Senegal’s openness to cooperation with all its strategic partners and encouraged the European Parliament, through its Bureau in Addis Ababa, to strengthen its support for the Pan-African Parliament, an essential pillar of continental integration. The two sides also discussed the opening of an external office of the European Parliament in West Africa, which would constitute an additional lever for bringing the two institutions closer together and deepening their cooperation.
