South African Christians Urged To Unite In Prayer For The Nation This Easter

Johannesburg – This Easter, the South African Community of Faith-Based Fraternals and Federations (SACOFF) is calling on Christians across the country to unite in prayer for the future of our nation.

SACOFF represents more than 24 000 churches in South Africa.

At a time marked by significant social, economic, and moral challenges—including rising crime, gender-based violence, corruption, and economic hardship—faith communities are stepping forward with a unified vision of hope and restoration.

“This Easter, we are not only reflecting on the resurrection of Christ,” says Pastor Bert Pretorius, President of SACOFF, “we are envisioning the restoration of a nation.

“We are calling on believers across South Africa to pray for the country we believe God is raising up.”

A National Prayer Vision for South Africa SACOFF has outlined a series of national prayer priorities that reflect the collective hopes of millions of South African Christians.

Believers are praying for a South Africa where God is central in every sphere of life—within families, communities, and leadership—recognising that true hope, wisdom, and moral clarity flow from Him.

There is a strong call for renewal and restoration, with churches declaring that South Africa will rise from its current challenges into a new season marked by integrity, healing, and purpose.

Faith communities are also praying for righteous leadership, where corruption is exposed and replaced by integrity, humility, and accountability in both public and private sectors.

Economic restoration remains a key focus, with prayers for job creation, business growth, and sustainable provision for households across the country.

Safety and security are central concerns, with united prayer for a decrease in crime and violence, and for communities to be restored as places of peace rather than fear.

Families are being lifted up as the foundation of the nation, with a vision of restored homes, empowered parents, and children growing in purpose and stability.

Special emphasis is being placed on the youth of South Africa, with churches praying for a generation that rises above hopelessness and becomes leaders, innovators, and positive agents of change.

Unity and reconciliation are also at the forefront, with a call for South Africans to move beyond division and embrace a shared national identity built on mutual respect and cooperation.

Finally, SACOFF is calling for the Church itself to rise—bold, compassionate, and active in serving communities and addressing the needs of society.

A Call to Action SACOFF is encouraging all churches, faith leaders, and citizens to actively participate in this national prayer movement throughout the Easter weekend and beyond.

“This is not just a moment of reflection—it is a moment of responsibility,” adds Pastor Pretorius.

“We believe that as the Church rises in prayer and action, we will see transformation in our nation.”

A Declaration of Faith

In closing, SACOFF affirms a united declaration over the nation: “South Africa shall be saved. South Africa shall be restored. South Africa shall fulfil its God-given purpose.”

Meanwhile, on Friday, 3 April 2026, President Cyril Ramaphosa wished the country’s Christian communities well as they observe Easter.

Sending his well wishes to South Africa’s Christian community during the Easter weekend, President Ramaphosa said: “For South Africa’s diverse Christian denominations and for Christians around the world, the Resurrection of Christ serves as a powerful call to personal renewal, and is an integral part of faith.

“This timeless message of retaining hope amidst uncertainty resonates with us all.”

The President said the Easter weekend was a welcome break and a time for reconnecting with family and friends.

“No matter where we may be this weekend, let us take to heart the Easter message by observing ubuntu, empathy and tolerance – in our communities, in social gatherings, on the roads and above all, in our homes,” stated President Ramaphosa.

This weekend, the President will join congregants from the Zion Christian Church at their annual Easter celebrations in Moria, Limpopo.
