Southeast in darkness as EEDC announces partial national grid collapseĀ

The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company Plc, EEDC, has announced a partial national grid collapse that has plunged parts of the southeast into darkness.

The spokesperson of EEDC, Emeka Ezeh, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday.

According to the company, the partial grid collapse occurred around 11:54 a.m. on Thursday.

ā€œEEDC wishes to inform its customers across the Southeast that it experienced a partial system collapse today at about 11:54 a.m.

ā€œThis resulted in the power outage currently affecting customers served by our subsidiary companies, MainPower, TransPower, FirstPower, NewEra, and EastLand.

ā€œThe cause of the collapse is yet to be ascertained, but we are on standby, awaiting restoration of supply,ā€ the company said.

This comes days after an announced drop in electricity nationwide due to maintenance exercises at Seplat Energy and repairs on the Nigerian National Petroleum Company gas pipeline.

Meanwhile, as of filing this report, parts of Abuja, Nasarawa, Niger, and Kogi had electricity supply from the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company.
