Residents are encouraged to support the Springs Home Sweepers during their home game at Kwa-Thema Stadium at 15:00 on Sunday.

Kwa-Thema – Springs Home Sweepers FC kicked off their first Sasol league game in a positive way by winning 5 – 1 against Kempton Park Stars in Thembisa on Sunday.

This was the first time the team won their first league match since they joined the women’s league.

The team’s technical coach, Mkhonza Mkhonzana, said although this was the first of many league games they must play, it was a positive start.

“Our girls worked hard to prepare for the game, as was displayed on the pitch. We hope to win many more games and finish in the top three,” he added.

The team locks horns with Wits University at the Kwa-Thema Stadium on Sunday. The kick-off is at 15:00. Mkhonzana encourages young girls in the area who are interested in soccer to join the team.

“Our team is made up of young players competing with players who are at the university level. We want to groom the players while they are young to grow in the sport to have enough years to play in international teams,” he said.
