On Monday 13 January, the National Assembly of Senegal was the scene of a high-level diplomatic meeting. The President of the National Assembly, Mr El Malick Ndiaye, welcomed the Ambassador of the United States to Senegal, Mr Michael Raynor, accompanied by a high-level delegation. It highlighted the crucial importance of parliamentary cooperation between the two nations, stressing that the United States remained fully committed to supporting Senegalese parliamentarians in their legislative efforts and in the fulfillment of their missions in the service of citizens. President El Malick Ndiaye took the floor to express his gratitude for the visit and to express his condolences to the American nation on the death of former President Jimmy Carter, his humanitarian legacy and his contribution to a more just world. Mr Ndiaye also expressed, on behalf of all the Senegalese deputies, his deep sympathy for the victims of the devastating fire which is currently raging in Los Angeles, thus reaffirming the bonds of solidarity between the two peoples. This meeting, marked by a spirit of cooperation and mutual commitment, illustrates the will of the two nations to strengthen their partnership through constructive exchanges and enhanced collaboration on parliamentary and democratic issues.
