Suspect caught with illegal mining tools during EMPD operation

A man was arrested in Tsakani by EMPD officers after being found in possession of illegal equipment following a tip-off.

Tsakani – EMPD Eastern Region Task Team Unit officers arrested a 36-year-old man on May 30 in Tsakani after he was found with illegal mining equipment.

According to CoE spokesperson Zwelu Dlamini, EMPD officers received information about illegal mining activity occurring in Langaville Ext 6.

“The officers proceeded to the given address and, upon arrival, encountered the suspect and requested permission to search the premises.

“During the search, officers discovered various pieces of mining equipment, including two phendukas, two large bags containing mine or gold dust, and a motor.

“When asked to produce his identity document, the suspect stated that it had expired and that he was in the process of acquiring a new one,” said Dlamini.

Dlamini mentioned that the suspect was handcuffed and taken to the Tsakane Police Station, where he was charged with the possession of illegal mining equipment. The suspect is expected to appear before the Tsakane Magistrate’s Court soon.
