Gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen and cattle rustlers on Friday invaded the Gwom Gada community in Kadunu Ward, Gindiri area of Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State, killing four siblings and injuring two others before stealing an unspecified number of cows belonging to one Alhaji Tanko Adamu.
The Chairman of Mangu LGA, Hon. Emmanuel Mwolpun, who confirmed the development in a statement issued on his behalf by his Director of Press, Jerry Dakahap, on Monday, said the heavily armed attackers swooped on the community, shooting sporadically. Unfortunately, the siblings, aged between 18, 7, 5, and 2, were caught in the crossfire and were killed in the process. At the same time, two of their neighbours were critically injured.
According to the statement, Hon. Mwolpun, who visited the community on Sunday to sympathize with the bereaved family and the community at large, condemned the heinous act, describing it as unacceptable and inhumane, and promised that security agencies would hunt down the attackers and bring them to justice.
āWe are deeply saddened by this senseless violence. We stand with the community and the affected families, and we will do everything possible to support the community to prevent similar incidents from occurring again,ā the statement quoted Hon. Mwolpun as saying.
āThe Chairman has specifically instructed that the security personnel increase their presence in the community to prevent further attacks.
āThe community is still reeling from the shock of the attack and has called for increased security measures to protect them from such incidents in the future,ā Dakahap added.
The Mangu Sector Commander, Operation Enduring Peace, Col. Fagbemi, who was part of the Chairmanās entourage, assured the community that more security personnel would be deployed immediately to ensure such an act does not recur.
