The National Association of Imams and Ulema of Senegal based in Djidah Thiaroye Kaw formally denounced, in a statement made public on Wednesday, any involvement in the operation of distribution of Tabaski sheep organized by the Embassy of Israel in Dakar. In a communiqué signed by its president, Imam Yahya Djibril Niang, and its vice-president, Imam Abdoulaye Gningue, the association affirms that it is “neither close nor distant” to this initiative. She is reacting to the release of a video showing the current president of the National Association of Imams and Ulema of Senegal alongside the Israeli ambassador during the delivery of the sheep. The association considers this image to be particularly damaging, denouncing an act of communication aimed at “reducing the flag of a criminal state on the backs of the poor and needy”. It invokes in particular the context of the conflict in Gaza, calling Israel an “aggressor state” and referring to a “genocide perpetrated in the eyes and on the lips of the entire international community”. The structure asks the media and the public to relay its position, in order to remove all doubts about its involvement in this action that it qualifies as “mascarade”.
