Taraba govt denies claims of automatic tickets for political aspirants

The Taraba State Government has dismissed widespread rumours alleging that Governor Agbu Kefas has granted automatic tickets to certain political aspirants ahead of the forthcoming general elections.

In a statement issued by the Special Adviser on Political Matters and Special Duties, Josiah Sabo Kente, on Friday in Jalingo, the government described the claims as “false, baseless, and misleading,” insisting that no such commitments have been made by the governor.

According to the statement, Kefas remains committed to democratic principles, emphasising internal party democracy, fairness, and equal opportunity for all aspirants.

“At no time has His Excellency made any promise of automatic tickets to any individual or group,” the statement read.

The clarification, according to Kente, also aligns with the position of the state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

“The State Chairman, Abubakar Bawa, reiterated that the party has no provision for automatic tickets, stressing its commitment to a transparent and credible selection process”, Kente said.

The government noted that the rumours had generated unnecessary tension among aspirants, party members, and the public, prompting the need for an official response.

Stakeholders were also urged to disregard the claims and avoid spreading unverified information that could disrupt party unity.

Reaffirming the administration’s priorities, the statement added that Governor Kefas remains focused on governance and will continue to support lawful and democratic processes within the party as election preparations continue.

The government also called on aspirants and supporters to remain calm, united, and committed to the party’s ideals.
