Political tension is rising within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Taraba State as the 16-member State Caretaker Committee has directed members of the dissolved State Working Committee (SWC) to vacate the partyâs state secretariat or face legal action.
In a statement made available to journalists on Thursday evening, the Caretaker Committee, chaired by Dr Falack Victor, stressed that its actions are guided by law.
âOccupying the state secretariat of the party after your lawful dissolution amounts to illegality, and the law frowns at such acts,â the statement read.
Dr Victor warned that no one is above the law, regardless of status, and urged all party members to work together to strengthen the PDP rather than resort to what he described as âcheap blackmail against the national body.â
The directive follows a February 24, 2026, press statement by the dissolved SWC, which described the Caretaker Committee as an âunrecognised body with no constitutional standing within the partyâ and accused it of spreading misinformation.
Dr Victor strongly refuted this claim.
âThe legal backing for the Caretaker Committeeâs authority was reinforced by a Federal High Court ruling in Ibadan, delivered by Justice U.N. Agomoh on January 30, 2026.
The court nullified the PDP convention held in Ibadan on November 15â16, 2025, declaring all actions and decisions from that convention invalid,â he said.
The court judgment recognised the National Caretaker Committee as the only lawful body to run the partyâs affairs and directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to accord recognition accordingly.
Dr Victor emphasised that the caretaker committeeâs goal is not to undermine any individual but to restore order and unity within the party. He urged members to desist from factional activities and work towards reconciliation.
Commending the national leadership of the PDP, particularly Nyesom Wike and Alhaji Abdulraman Mohammed, Dr Victor called on members who resigned due to misinformation to return to the party fold.
âThis is a time for reconciliation and unity. We must all come together to rebuild and strengthen the PDP in Taraba State,â he concluded.
